Later, Magnolia hid in the hallway listening to her parents’ conversation.

“Have they found her a room yet?”

“Not yet, they are fully booked.”

“Oh dear, dear, dear!” whistled the kettle. “Oh shame, shame, shame!”

Magnolia knew what they were talking about. And she knew where there was a room. A room with a big window with a view of the sky and a tree outside full of insects and birds. It was her room. Her brand-new room. A place of her own that she had waited a very long time for. Then a window opened in her heart. A new space for an idea to grow. A place for her to look out and see things from a different point of view. And Magnolia made a decision. A brave decision. She took a deep breath and lifted her chin to stop it from wobbling.

“I have an idea,” said Magnolia, stepping into the kitchen.

Her parents looked up in surprise.

“I know where there is a spare room.”
